High Functioning Autism: How to Get Assessed

Back in March, I found out I was on the Autism Spectrum. This revelation helped me understand why I always felt like I was different from other people and functioned uniquely. Autism is sometimes subtle (especially in women), and many people are either misdiagnosed or go undiagnosed until late adulthood. Most may go on their whole lives never knowing, thus never receiving tailored help.

I believe that if undiagnosed people finally get assessed, with the right interventions, emotional support, and self-awareness, autism can be advantageous in people's lives.

Note: I am not a specialist and am only relaying things from my personal experience. Also, even though the term Aspergers is commonly used (even in Psychology Today), the name is now just considered Autism according to the DSM-5. Some people still label themselves "Aspies," or "High Functioning" at a conversational level, though these terms are controversial. ASD Levels 1, 2, and 3 are clinical classifications in the diagnostic manual so some people may go by that as well.
